Restorative dentistry is the term used to describe the repair process to fix or replace teeth that have decay, chipped, broken or lost. Restorative treatments include sealants, fillings, inlays, onlays, crowns, bridges, dental implants & dentures.
If you have a chipped or broken tooth, it may be restored by one of Capital Dentistry’s dentist with the help of a crown, which is a cap for your tooth. A dental crown can be used to cover a damaged or discoloured tooth, as well as after a root canal treatment. Ceramic dentistry, or CEREC, is available at select Capital Dentistry clinics. The CEREC method allows your dental crown to be molded, made and fitted in one visit.
Dental implants can be used to replace single teeth, several teeth or even all of your teeth. They’re held in place by your jawbone, using artificial root replacements made of titanium. Your Capital Dentistry dentist will determine if you’re a good candidate for dental implants by taking an x-ray of your mouth to evaluate your bone density. Dental implants can also be used for cosmetic dentistry purposes.
Root Canal Treatment
If a tooth looses its nerve and blood supply due to trauma or deep decay, a root canal may be used as an appropriate treatment method. Used to remove what’s referred to as dead or infected pulp from the inside of your teeth, root canal surgery also eliminates the spread of the infection to the bone. Most root canal treatments only require one visit, but some may require more, depending on your condition.
There are many misconceptions surrounding root canals, such as thinking they’re painful. With the proper skill and equipment, they don’t have to be.
